A mentorship app that helps new pet owners become confident and responsible caregivers through 1:1 guidance from verified mentors and a community forum for shared learning.

PROBLEM

How might we provide new pet owners with accessible, trustworthy guidance on pet care costs, responsibilities, and long-term care?

SOLUTION

Designed a mobile mentorship platform that provides new pet owners with reliable, on-demand support and education, helping them build confidence and practice responsible pet ownership over time.

RESEARCH OVERVIEW

90 min, in-context user interviews with:

  • 4 current pet owners

  • 1 veterinarian assistant

RESEARCH GOAL

  • Deepen our understanding of pet ownership and needs

'I had a lack of knowledge about what pet ownership entailed when I first adopted my pet, especially about training our dog and keeping him healthy in regards to things like weight and oral health. I wish I had an expert help me from the start."

"I wish I received information about things like veterinary bills, behavioral training, genetic medical issues, nutrition, and a lot of other things."

"If we had access to a specialist without us looking for one, we would have been willing to spend $100 or $30/month cause that's one less things to worry about."

    First time pet owners feel overwhelmed by the responsibility of adoption and struggle to find reliable, centralized guidance they can trust.

  • Many are unsure about the true time, financial, and lifestyle commitment of pet ownership

  • They don't know who to ask for personalized advice before and after adoption

  • Information exists, but it's scattered across forums, blogs, and vet sites, making it hard to know what's credible

    Experienced pet owners and professionals are motivated to help but lack an easy, structured way to mentor and share reliable advice.
